Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has been extremely happy with Luis Suarez over the last few months despite the £ 70 million striker not scoring as many goals as he did with Liverpool last season.
This is largely because Suarez has been a team player at Barcelona. He has been regularly involved in the goals scored by the Catalan club and this was aptly demonstrated by his performance in the 3-1 win over Granada. Despite having an open goal at his feet, Suarez decided to give Messi an opportunity to score in the match. However, he was not pleased when he was substituted with 11 minutes of normal time remaining.
Suarez clearly made his feelings known, but Enrique does not give too much attention to the fact that the player was not happy at being substituted. This was the fourth win in five league matches for Barcelona. They were coming on a high after the 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League. Suarez scored both goals in the match while Lionel Messi missed a late penalty that would have given Barcelona a sizeable advantage going into the second leg at the Camp Nou. Suarez has been playing football only since October due to a lengthy suspension from Fifa. Hence, he is certainly not in need of a rest now.
“I’m not looking at what took place off the field. When I played I didn’t want to be involved in every minute. In the kickabouts and in matches where the substitutes were playing, I wasn’t bothered about playing then.Barca always go out to win the games and the objective in the return leg of the cup is to beat Villarreal. If we win the game then there is no possibility of a surprise. We are in top condition considering the stage of the season and the minutes already played,” said Enrique.
